Tempranillo is ongetwijfeld de belangrijkste Spaanse druif, en zelfs een van de belangrijkste druiven ter wereld als je liefhebber bent van kwaliteitswijnen. De druif werd lange tijd onderschat, vooral buiten Spanje, maar de voorbije jaren is daar gelukkig verandering in gekomen. Tempranillo wordt intussen overal in Spanje en Portugal aangeplant, en ook ver daarbuiten: bij je volgende tocht door wijngaarden in Argentinië, Australië of de VS (vooral in California, Oregon, Washington en Texas) moet je niet verbaasd zijn als je plots Tempranillo ziet groeien.
